In this article, I am going to compare the ROG Phone 5 vs Legion Phone Duel 2 on several parameters to find out which one is the best gaming phone.
ROG Phone 5 vs Legion Phone Duel 2
Basic Specifications
Design
Design in gaming smartphones is a key element and it should be, right? So both the phones have that RGB lighting at the back. However, the thing to notice here is that the ROG Phone 5 looks more like a smartphone while the Legion Phone Duel 2 just looks like a gaming console from the future that can also be used as a smartphone. So overall, the Legion Phone Duel 2 isn’t shy about its whole gaming aesthetic and you can easily notice it. Looking at the ROG Phone 5 you see an elegant-looking smartphone with the camera module at the back and the ROG logo with RGB at the middle. The smartphone doesn’t look that bulky given the specs and battery it packs inside. Additionally, you also get support for a lot of gaming accessories. The Legion Phone Duel 2 looks like a gaming beast and you can see the Legion logo, the cooling fan, and the triple camera module at the center of the phone. The lock button also houses the pop-up camera which is mounted on the side and is convenient for streaming. There is just a big bump at the center of the Legion Phone Duel 2 which could be a little issue for some. But the bottom line here is that Lenovo isn’t shy about the whole gaming aesthetic. So much so that they have designed the smartphone according to gaming configuration which is the landscape mode. And all the heat-generating components are placed at the center so that the users do can place their hands conveniently.
Display
If we talk about ROG Phone 5 vs Legion Duel 2 in terms of the display then both of the smartphones are almost the same with an insane 144Hz refresh rate. However, the Legion Phone Duel 2 has a wider panel and a touch sampling rate of 720Hz which is just crazy. So in terms of display, the Legion Phone Duel 2 has a slight edge.
Durability
This is not one of the areas that we talk a lot about because the flagships have gotten so much better in terms of durability over the recent years. However, this is not the case with either of the ROG Phone 5 or Legion Phone Duel 2. The durability tests for both the smartphones on JerryRigEverything’s YouTube channel revealed shocking results when both of the smartphones snapped into pieces during the durability test. For me, it is quite disappointing as both of the smartphones are flagship-grade. So yes, these aren’t the devices on which you should take your aggression out as they won’t be able to take to.
Hardware and Software Performance
As mentioned above, both of the smartphones are loaded with the most advanced hardware you could ask for. The ROG Phone 5 has up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. On the other hand, The Legion Phone Duel 2 has up to 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. Combine these with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and you get a lethal gaming performance. Additionally, the Legion Phone Duel 2 also has a cooling fan system built-in to provide lower temperatures while playing games at max settings. Both of the smartphones run on Android 11 with their custom skins but the ROG Phone 5 gives you the option to switch to stock Android. Both of the smartphones have Bluetooth 5.2.
Gaming Experience
So as you can see from the basic specifications above, they both have the same processor, and the Legion Phone Duel 2 more RAM but 12GB RAM on ROG Phone 5 is more than sufficient to run any of the mobile games on max settings. However, the gaming performance and experience are better on the Legion Phone Duel 2 with its insane touch sampling rate of 720Hz and refresh rate of 144Hz, the games are more snappy and fun to play. It also has a built-in cooling fan system which helps a lot in keeping the phone’s temperature in check.
Battery
The ROG Phone 5 has a bigger 6000mAh battery with 65W fast charging compared to the 5500mAh battery on the Legion Phone Duel 2. So far we have seen the batteries that use two cells so that they can charge parallel and provide fast charging. However, Lenovo has taken the game up with the Legion Phone Duel 2. The smartphone has 2 USB C ports and you can charge your phone at insane 90W using both the ports and charger supplied in the box. So the smaller battery can be compensated with fast charging.
Cameras
I mean the gaming smartphones are never really that good at taking photos or videos and one shouldn’t be mad about it. To give you the reference, the ROG Phone 5 has a triple camera setup on the back with a triple-camera module with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX 686 sensor, an ultrawide lens, and a macro lens. On the front, you have a 32-megapixel selfie camera. The Legion Phone Duel 2 houses a dual-camera setup at the rear and a single motorized pop-up at the front for selfies. The dual rear camera setup includes a primary 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64A image sensor with an f/1.9 lens and a secondary 16-megapixel ultrawide sensor with a viewing angle of 123-degrees and an aperture of f/2.2. At the front, the smartphone has a 44-megapixel motorized pop-up camera located on the right side of the smartphone, so that it can be used while gaming in landscape mode as well. Overall, I would say that the cameras are quite decent and you get good usability of the front camera on the Legion Phone Duel 2 as it can be used for streaming.
Pricing
The ROG Phone 5 8GB+128GB variant costs 49,999 INR , and the 12GB+256GB variant costs 57,999 INR. And for the Legion Phone the pricing is as follows:
